Ibrahim Mahama denies interest in VALCO, threatens legal action over takeover claims

Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has dismissed allegations that he is seeking to acquire the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), insisting he has no interest in taking over the state-owned firm and has never submitted an offer to purchase it.

The denial comes after claims reportedly surfaced during a demonstration by VALCO workers, where some protesters alleged that Mahama was positioning himself to acquire the company.

In a statement issued through his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, the businessman described the claims as false and part of a broader pattern of attempts to tarnish his reputation.

“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO,” the statement said.

The statement further defended Mahama’s business record, noting that his companies were established or acquired through legitimate processes and have operated successfully under successive governments.

“Unfortunately the allegation is the latest in several vile attempts to impute the integrity of Mr Ibrahim Mahama and subject him to needless public engagements,” it added.

Mahama has since instructed his lawyers to pursue legal action against those responsible for publishing and circulating the allegations.

The businessman also reiterated his commitment to investing in Ghana’s economy, stating that his focus remains on creating opportunities that contribute to national development rather than acquiring VALCO.

“He is committed to contributing his quota to the development of Ghana by investing in business opportunities in Ghana and beyond,” the statement noted.
