ECOWAS to donate US$250,000 to Ghana flood victims

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to provide US$250,000, equivalent to about GH¢3 million, to support victims of the devastating floods that hit parts of Ghana.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed the development in a post on Facebook, saying the ministry had officially been informed by ECOWAS about the planned financial assistance.

He said the funds are intended to provide relief to communities and individuals affected by the floods.

The Minister assured the public that the Foreign Affairs Ministry would ensure transparency and accountability by transferring the full amount to the relevant authorities as soon as the funds are received.

On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, the Ministry expressed appreciation to ECOWAS for its support and solidarity during the difficult period.

The floods of June 29 affected communities across seven regions, displacing thousands of households and causing significant damage to homes, businesses and critical infrastructure.
