Henderson joins Chelsea after leaving Brentford

Chelsea have completed the signing of veteran England midfielder Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract following his departure from Brentford.

The 36-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge after reaching an agreement to terminate his deal with Brentford, bringing an end to a brief spell with the west London club where he featured regularly in the Premier League last season.

Henderson said the opportunity to work under Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso played a major role in his decision, describing the move as one he could not pass up. He added that he hopes to use his experience to contribute both on and off the pitch.

The former Liverpool captain brings a wealth of experience to Chelsea, having enjoyed one of the most successful careers of any English midfielder of his generation. During his 12-year stay at Anfield, he led Liverpool to Premier League and Champions League glory and collected several domestic and international trophies.

His career has also included spells in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq and in the Netherlands with Ajax before he returned to England with Brentford ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

At international level, Henderson has earned 91 England caps and has represented the Three Lions at multiple World Cups and European Championships. He recently became the first English player to appear at four different World Cups, although his latest tournament was cut short by injury.

The signing continues Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment drive under Alonso. Henderson becomes the club’s latest addition in a busy transfer window that has already seen several high-profile arrivals as the Blues seek to rebuild after missing out on European qualification last season.

Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League, one point behind Brentford, and are hoping a blend of experienced leaders and emerging talent can help return the club to the upper end of the table.
