Kenya Airways plane tyre burst disrupts cape town airport flights

A plane suffered a tyre burst while landing at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, disrupting flight operations after the airport’s main runway was temporarily closed. All passengers were able to disembark safely.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said the Kenya Airways aircraft remained stranded on the main runway for several hours before it was cleared, allowing the runway to reopen and flights to resume.

Earlier, incoming flights were diverted to other airports, while international departures were temporarily suspended.

ACSA warned that some flights could continue to experience delays as airport operations gradually return to normal.

Kenya Airways said on X that its engineers and technical team were working to repair the aircraft.

Cape Town is a major tourist destination, while its international airport is the second-busiest in South Africa.
