Obuasi SHS Headteacher attacked over alleged fetus burial claim

The Headteacher of Obuasi Secondary School, Abdulai Zakaria, is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of students amid claims involving the alleged burial of a fetus.

Reports indicate that tension erupted on the school compound after some students claimed they had seen the headteacher burying what appeared to be a fetus in a nearby bush.

The students reportedly linked the alleged discovery to claims of an abortion involving one of their colleagues.

Sources familiar with the incident told JoyNews that the allegations angered students, who allegedly gathered in the early hours of Wednesday and confronted the headteacher.

He was reportedly attacked during the confrontation and sustained injuries that required medical attention. Some property belonging to the school was also allegedly damaged during the disturbance.

The injured headteacher was subsequently taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been officially disclosed.

Meanwhile, the police have deployed personnel to the school to restore order and prevent further disturbances. Officers have reportedly exhumed remains believed to be those of a baby from the location identified by the students as investigations continue.

The incident has brought academic activities at the school to a halt, with teaching and learning disrupted as authorities work to establish what happened. Security has also been heightened on the campus.

The police have yet to issue an official statement confirming the alleged discovery or the accusations against the headteacher. The claims remain under investigation.
