Sagnarigu clash: Curfew imposed after one killed, six injured
The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has imposed a curfew on Damankunyili, Nyeshie and surrounding communities in the Northern Region following a communal clash that left one person dead and six others injured.
The violence is believed to have been triggered by a longstanding land dispute between the Damankunyili and Nyeshie communities, which both claim ownership of the same piece of land.
The conflict prompted an emergency meeting of the Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council on Tuesday to assess the situation and take steps to restore peace.
In a statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and MUSEC Chairman, Abdulai Imoro Gong, the council condemned the violence, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
As part of measures to prevent further violence, MUSEC has imposed a daily curfew from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until further notice.
The council has also prohibited the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within the affected communities.
Meanwhile, joint police patrols have been increased to enforce the curfew and maintain peace and security in the area.
