Nigerian music star Davido has declared that he possesses the strongest collection of hit songs in the country’s music industry, challenging any artiste who disagrees to a head-to-head contest.
Speaking during a livestream with content creator Davrel, the award-winning singer said he was confident enough in his catalogue to stake $1 million on the outcome of a hit-for-hit battle.
The Unavailable hitmaker maintained that no Nigerian musician has produced more successful records than he has throughout his career, insisting he would welcome any challenger willing to test that claim.
Davido’s comments are likely to spark debate among Afrobeats fans, given the achievements of fellow stars such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide, Tekno and Runtown, all of whom have built extensive catalogues of chart-topping songs over the years.
Despite the bold challenge, no artiste had publicly responded or accepted the proposed showdown at the time of reporting.
His remarks revive memories of a similar challenge issued by Burna Boy during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. While singer Reekado Banks expressed interest in taking part, Burna Boy later dismissed the prospect, saying the matchup was not one he considered worthwhile.
Davido remains one of Africa’s most commercially successful musicians, with multiple international collaborations, sold-out concerts and a string of hit records that have helped drive the global rise of Afrobeats.
