Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has argued that Nigeria’s difficulties cannot be blamed solely on President Bola Tinubu, insisting that deeper institutional failures are at the heart of the country’s problems.
Speaking on the Good News Naija podcast, Kuti said the country’s judiciary and other state institutions should come under greater scrutiny, claiming that weak systems have allowed corruption to thrive across successive administrations.
According to him, focusing attention on a single political figure overlooks broader governance issues that affect how leaders emerge and operate. He maintained that strong institutions and accountable public officials are essential to tackling corruption and improving national development.
Kuti questioned how individuals facing serious allegations are able to seek high office, arguing that an effective and independent judicial system should be capable of addressing such concerns before candidates reach the ballot.
The veteran musician further suggested that corruption has become entrenched across multiple sectors of society, describing it as a systemic problem rather than one tied to a particular government or administration.
He warned that the persistence of such challenges continues to frustrate many young Nigerians, who often feel disconnected from the country’s political and governance structures.
Kuti’s remarks add to ongoing debates in Nigeria about accountability, institutional reform and the role of public institutions in strengthening democracy and public trust.
