34-year old Jordan Ayew is currently a free agent after his Leicester City F.C contract expired, and with Europe’s major transfer windows closing soon, questions are beginning to emerge about what comes next for Ghana’s captain.

As of August 20, the Premier League window closes on September 1, leaving him roughly 12 days to secure a new club in England; other major European leagues close between August 31 and September 1. During the 2026 World Cup, Ayew played all four matches and 304 minutes without scoring or assisting.

Now, instead of beginning a new club season, he is reportedly training with Nania FC in Ghana as he continues his preseason preparations. This has raised an uncomfortable question: if he was struggling to secure a club, was Ghana right to take him to the World Cup? And if he considers himself too big for a move to a Ghanaian club, the bigger question remains: will a top European club still come calling before the window closes?
