Mahama officially nominates James Agalga as Acting Majority Leader

President John Dramani Mahama has formally nominated Builsa North MP James Agalga to serve as Acting Majority Leader of Parliament.

The nomination was announced in Parliament on Monday, August 24, during an emergency sitting convened following the President’s recall of the House. Speaker Alban Bagbin read the President’s letter communicating the nomination to MPs.

Parliament has begun a five-day emergency sitting, running from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, to address urgent matters outlined by the President.

Among the issues on the agenda are the consideration of three nominees to the Supreme Court, two ministerial nominees, and the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Amendment Bill.

Speaker Bagbin has directed MPs to limit proceedings strictly to the matters for which Parliament was recalled, stressing that no other business will be considered during the emergency session.
