Woman caught smuggling suspected ‘Colos’ in Milo sachet in Nigeria prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Ogun State has arrested a woman accused of attempting to smuggle suspected psychoactive drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, for her son, who is on death row.

Officials identified the suspect as Mrs Iyabo Sowunmi. She was arrested at about 1:33 p.m. on Friday, August 28, during routine screening at the prison’s main entrance, according to NCoS spokesperson Olayinka Odukoya.

Correctional officers allegedly found a substance suspected to be “Colos,” described by authorities as a synthetic psychoactive drug, concealed inside a one-kilogram sachet of Milo beverage powder. The package was allegedly intended for Dare Sowunmi, an inmate held on death row at the facility.

Mrs Sowunmi was detained and later handed over to Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities have not yet announced laboratory results confirming the identity of the seized substance, and the allegation remains subject to investigation.
