Police widen investigation after clashes between Okuapeman SHS and Mount Sinai SHS
Police have launched a sweeping investigation into the violent clashes between students of Okuapeman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School, with more than 10 students already in custody and additional arrests expected.
Authorities say the focus of the investigation has expanded beyond the students directly involved in the disturbances, as allegations emerge that other individuals may have played a role in the unrest.
The violence, which erupted in the Akuapem North Municipality, left parts of both school campuses damaged and disrupted academic activities. Several structures were reportedly affected by fire, while students fled the scene as security personnel moved in to restore order.
Eastern Regional Police Commander DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah said officers are working to identify every person connected to the incident and warned that anyone found responsible would face prosecution.
Investigators are also examining claims that some adults may have encouraged or influenced the confrontations. Police say names have surfaced during the inquiry and those implicated could be invited for questioning or arrested if evidence supports the allegations.
The clashes resulted in injuries to six students from Okuapeman SHS. School authorities say most of the affected students have since received treatment, although some remained under medical care following the incident.
While the exact trigger of the violence remains unclear, police are gathering statements and reviewing evidence to establish how the confrontation began and how it escalated into widespread destruction.
Security has been strengthened around the affected schools as authorities work to prevent further disturbances and reassure parents and students.
Police have appealed for calm and urged students who may have fled during the operation to cooperate with investigators as efforts continue to bring the situation under control and hold those responsible accountable.
