Rahim Ibrahim makes Champions League bow despite Slovan’s heavy PSG defeat

Ghanaian midfielder Rahim Ibrahim reached a major milestone in his career on Wednesday night, making his UEFA Champions League debut as Slovan Bratislava opened their league-phase campaign against holders Paris Saint-Germain.

The 24-year-old was handed a starting role at the Parc des Princes and featured for an hour before being substituted in a difficult outing that ended in a 6-1 victory for the French champions.

Ibrahim’s appearance capped a journey that began with Accra Lions before his move to Europe in 2020. He had played a key role in Slovan Bratislava’s route to the competition, featuring in all six qualifying matches that secured the club a place in the league phase.

While PSG dominated the contest, the Ghanaian midfielder remained involved throughout his spell on the pitch, contributing defensively and creating a scoring opportunity for his side.

Spanish forward Ferran Torres starred for the hosts with a hat-trick as PSG launched their title defence in emphatic fashion.

Despite the result, Ibrahim leaves Paris with valuable Champions League experience and is expected to remain an important part of Slovan Bratislava’s campaign as the Slovak side looks to bounce back in its remaining fixtures.
