Four granted bail in Assin Fosu kidnapping case as investigations continue

Four people accused of kidnapping and torturing a man in Assin Fosu have been granted bail by the Assin Fosu District Court as police continue investigations into the case.

The accused are facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, causing harm, stealing, threats of harm and the unlawful sharing of intimate images. Prosecutors allege the offences were committed against 30-year-old Bismark Amoh between September 6 and 11.

According to investigators, the victim was allegedly held against his will while demands were made for his family to pay GH¢45,000. The suspects reportedly claimed the money was linked to an alleged fraud involving one of the accused.

During proceedings, the court granted varying bail conditions to the four accused persons and ordered them to return for the next hearing on October 23.

Prosecutors told the court that the case remains under investigation, with attention now turning to a fifth suspect said to be a senior military officer. Police say the individual is currently outside the country and efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.

The case has also taken another twist after one of the accused, Mavis Badu Acheampong, reportedly filed a separate complaint against the alleged victim, accusing him of fraud involving an electronic transaction.

The court is expected to hear further updates on the investigations when the matter returns next month.
