Minority urges Mahama to call appointees to order

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged President John Mahama to take a closer look at the conduct of some government appointees, arguing that recent developments are raising concerns about governance and accountability.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, the Effutu MP said the President should use the remainder of his time in office to reflect on the impact of his leadership and the legacy he intends to leave behind.

“Watch these excesses, enough is enough. Call your appointees to order because this is not the Ghana we want.”

Afenyo-Markin said the opposition is not challenging the role of state institutions, but wants their actions to remain consistent with the law and constitutional principles.

“We are not against accountability and we always say that. We are not against any state institution going about its lawful duty as enshrined in any enactment or the Constitution.”

He also posed a direct question to the President about how history will judge his second term in office.

“Can you proudly say, the second opportunity you were given by God, you used that chance to transform your country?”

The Minority Leader said concerns over governance should be addressed before they overshadow the administration’s broader record.
