NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has criticised the Mahama administration over the demolition of businesses, including facilities at La Beach, arguing that a government elected on promises of job creation should not be taking actions that threaten livelihoods.
Addressing delegates at the NPP’s National Delegates Congress in Kumasi on Saturday, Dr Bawumia said many businesses continue to struggle despite the relative stability of the cedi and maintained that the cost of living remains a major concern for Ghanaians.
He also questioned the pace of implementation of key government promises, particularly the much-publicised 24-hour economy policy. According to him, nearly two years into the administration, the expected jobs and shift-based employment opportunities have yet to materialise.
The NPP flagbearer urged party members to accept the outcome of the party’s internal elections in good faith as delegates vote to elect a new national leadership ahead of preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin also called on the NPP and its parliamentary caucus to continue scrutinising government decisions without intimidation, while encouraging party unity behind Dr Bawumia.
Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, in separate messages to delegates, urged members to strengthen the party’s structures and rally behind its leadership as it works toward returning to power in 2028.
