A double fibre cut along the Accra-Winneba and Winneba-Cape Coast routes has disrupted Telecel Ghana’s services across parts of the Central Region, affecting an estimated 72,754 subscribers.
According to the National Communications Authority (NCA), the outage has also impacted about 181 Radio Access Network (RAN) sites. The information was disclosed by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, in a post on X on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
The affected areas include parts of Winneba and Agona Swedru, sections of the coastal and transit corridors, as well as communities around the Kasoa-Weija border.
Locations affected include Winneba, Agona Swedru, Nyakrom, Kwanyako, Apam, Mumford, Otuam, Gomoa Fetteh, Senya Beraku, Mankessim, Assin Fosu, Twifo Praso and Ateiku.
Other communities reporting disruptions include Awutu Bereku, Bawjiase, Potsin, Jei Krodua, Tuba, Weija, West Hills Mall, Dark Bortianor and Aplaku Bortianor.
The fibre damage is believed to have been caused by road construction activities along the affected stretch.
Sam George said the damage occurred as a result of work being carried out by the road contractor in the area.
Telecel has since deployed engineers to the affected locations to restore connectivity. Another team is engaging the road contractor to prevent further excavation work from causing additional damage to the network.
The NCA said it is monitoring developments as efforts continue to restore services in the affected areas.
Telecel has apologised to customers affected by the outage and assured them that its technical teams are working to restore services as quickly as possible.
