Former Awutu Senya East MP Mavis Hawa Koomson has been elected National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), defeating her only challenger, Hajia Safia Mohammed.
Madam Koomson secured the position during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, where more than 7,000 delegates participated in the election of a new national executive team.
Her election puts her in charge of the NPP’s women’s wing, where she will coordinate women’s groups across the party’s various structures and help promote greater participation of women in party activities ahead of the 2028 general election.
The National Women’s Organiser election was part of a wider exercise to select new national executives for the party. Delegates also voted to fill positions including General Secretary, National Youth Organiser and other key executive roles.
Justin Frimpong Kodua retained his position as General Secretary after securing 4,486 votes. Former Ngleshie Amanfro MP Sylvester Tetteh followed with 1,340 votes, while Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena polled 162 and 126 votes respectively.
In the National Youth Organiser race, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu emerged victorious with 1,550 votes. Clement Opoku Gyamfi came second with 631 votes, while Michael Osei Boateng obtained 78 votes.
Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, a former Deputy National Youth Organiser, received 46 votes, followed by Vera Oye Bram-Larbi with 44 and Alfred Kumi Ababio with 25.
The newly elected national executives are expected to work collectively to manage the NPP’s operations, strengthen its structures and lead preparations for the party’s activities ahead of the 2028 general election.
