The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has indefinitely postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the university’s management explained that the industrial action had disrupted the effective administration and operations of the institution, necessitating the postponement.
The academic year was initially scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Management has urged students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the change and await further updates on the new reopening date.
The university said a revised date would be announced in due course but did not indicate when academic activities would resume.
“Management regrets any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders,” the statement said.
The decision comes amid disruptions to administrative services at KNUST following the GAUA strike, which has left some university offices operating below their usual capacity.
