Six thousand young people are expected to be recruited under a government-backed initiative to support basic school education, with deployment scheduled for November 2026.
The programme follows an agreement between the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Ghana Education Service (GES), signed in September, according to YEA Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale.
Speaking at the Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21, Basintale said the initiative would provide additional classroom support, especially in communities where schools face difficulties attracting adequate support.
The Community Teaching Assistant Model will give qualified recruits the opportunity to gain practical teaching experience while assisting existing teaching staff. The agency says the arrangement is intended to complement, rather than replace, trained teachers.
Basintale said the scheme also forms part of YEA’s employment strategy, which seeks to help young people earn an income and develop work experience through services that respond to community needs.
