Residents of La have staged a demonstration against the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach, appealing to the government to intervene and help restore the livelihoods of affected traders and workers.
The protest, dubbed “Aaagbe Wɔ Demo,” was organised by the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front to express the community’s displeasure with the demolition and its impact on people who depend on the beach for their livelihoods.
New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Titus Glover, who addressed the demonstrators, appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and allow the affected traders to return to the site.
He urged the President to protect the rights of the Ga-Dangme people affected by the exercise and help ease the economic hardship they are facing.
“We, the youth of the Ga-Dangme people, are saying that enough is enough. So we want to register our plea with the President to intervene and get the traders back to the place,” he said.
The demolition was carried out by National Security operatives on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a request from Labadi Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Some affected traders and workers say the exercise has disrupted their businesses and deprived them of their main source of income. They are therefore urging the government and relevant authorities to permit them to return to the beach and resume their activities.
