Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured the family of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong that the government will work to ensure justice is served following his fatal shooting in the Bronx, New York.
Mr Ablakwa gave the assurance during a telephone conversation with the victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, on Friday, October 30, 2026. He also conveyed President John Dramani Mahama’s condolences and pledged the government’s support to the grieving family.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ablakwa assured the father that the government would pursue the case and ensure those responsible were held accountable.
Speaking on behalf of the President, the Minister expressed deep sorrow over the teenager’s death, describing the incident as distressing and tragic.
The Ministry disclosed that officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York had also visited the family at their residence on Friday to offer their condolences and express solidarity.
It condemned the killing and called on the relevant authorities in the Bronx to conduct a comprehensive investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
The Ministry further stated that it would work closely with Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York and US authorities to pursue the case while providing the family with the necessary legal and consular assistance.
The government also extended its sympathies to Javits’ mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who is currently in Kumasi, as well as his other relatives and friends in Ghana and the United States.
Police are currently searching for three men suspected of involvement in the shooting, which occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, while Javits was reportedly on his way to school.
The teenager, who relocated from Ghana to the United States approximately a year ago, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and later died at a hospital.
