Eight people have died after two passenger buses collided at Azuletti, near Samenye, on the Elubo-Takoradi Highway. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it rescued 21 passengers from the wreckage.
The accident occurred at about 7:26 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, when an Ivorian-registered bus travelling towards Benin crashed into the rear of a parked Burkinabè passenger bus.

According to the GNFS, the parked bus had obstructed one lane of the highway, contributing to the collision. Seven people were confirmed dead at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate that excessive speed may have played a role in the crash.
The 21 injured passengers rescued from the wreckage were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police.
