The office of the Electoral Commission in Damongo in the Savannah Region was set ablaze by a group of agitated young people yesterday, December 8, 2024, over the delay in the declaration of the election results by the Electoral Commission.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident started as a peaceful gathering to demand updates on the results. However, the situation got out of control over rumors of alleged irregularities in the collation process.
A section of the group entered the premises forcefully and set it on fire as the officials failed to intervene in the situation.
Before the fire service arrived at the scene the structure had sustained severe damages, with some documents and equipment destroyed.

The Electoral Commission has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, though sources within the body have indicated efforts to expedite the collation and release of results.
