Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson says Minister of Finance, Dr. Amin Adam risks prosecution and potential jail time if he fails to read the budget for the first quarter of next year.
In four consecutive sittings of the House, the Finance Minister has failed to turn up for the budget reading.
But a frustrated Minority Leader on the floor of the House accused the finance minister of shirking his constitutional duties in a bid to stall government business.
“There are severe penalties for not doing this including a jail term. So I just want to caution those in office to be aware of the constitutional provisions and also be aware of the PFM Act,” he warned.
Dr. Forson urged the Speaker to compel the Minister to appear before the House to present the mini-budget.
