The attempt by the Electoral Commission to address concerns about its re-collation exercise appears to have drawn condemnation criticism from the public.
The EC today made some social media posts about re-collation exercises in the past stressing that recollation of results as occurred a few days ago was not something new.
The posts indicated that re-collation occurred in elections in the country in 1998 and 2004.
But the EC appear to have drawn the ire of some netizens one of who replied, “Sacking the commissioners too is not new. In 2017 the EC chair and all her deputies were sacked”.
Other netizens were highly critical of the EC, with one commenting as follows; “What Jean Mensah has failed to recognize is that in all the years she stated, there was no CI127. She prepared the CI127 for approval by parliament, and in the CI127, re-collation can’t be done once declaration has been made as she rightly told the NDC in 2020. When the agenda fits Jean Mensah, she refers to previous commissioners. When it doesn’t, she speaks about the independence of the EC”.
Another netizen wrote, “Because it happened during the era of Afari Gyan so you want to also do it… senseless analysis. Remember sacking the EC boss too is not a crime and it has happened before and so it is going to be repeat…. (sic). Start packing your belongings from that office”.
