Fire ravages Kwadaso wood market in Kumasi

A devastating fire broke out at the Kwadaso Wood Market in Kumasi, causing significant damage to property and livelihoods. The blaze, which started in the early hours of the morning, destroyed over 40 shops, including those selling fabrics, footwear, frozen foods, plantains, and yams.

Traders expressed their anguish over the loss of goods worth millions of cedis. Many had recently restocked their shops and are now facing financial ruin. One trader lamented, “I sell fabrics, shoes, hair scarves, and other things.

I took a loan, and now everything is gone. I’m appealing to the government to come to my aid so that I can restart the business.”

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident with two fire appliances. However, access to the market was challenging due to obstructions at the entrance and along the roads leading to the scene, causing delays in their response. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
