First Lady reacts to husband’s SoNA criticisms
Ghana’s First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo yesterday, appeared to have expressed her discontent with the criticisms directed at her husband’s State of the Nation address.
A viral video captured her walking away from Speaker of Parliament, Alan Bagbin, remarking, “You sit here and allow people to talk to us anyhow.”
This reaction came after President Nana Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation address, which faced strong criticisms, particularly from Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
MP Buah criticized the President’s tenure as one that would be reminder of bad governance.
“Let me remind his excellency that his tenure in office remains a timely reminder of how not to govern a country.” Buah stated
He further criticized the President’s economic management, saying that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had “cushioned” the government since the beginning of its tenure. ”Mr President, you will be remembered as the first President who was cushioned by the IMF when you began and you are still being cushioned at the end of your term”
He also questioned the President’s failure to provide an update on the National Cathedral project, which was announced as a dedication to God. ” Mr President you left something very important out of your account. Your promise to God to build a cathedral” he said.
The First Lady’s reaction has received heavy backlash on social media from Ghanaians.
