My call saved the nation, I should be celebrated- Sam George

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister-nominee for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, defended his December 8, 2024, social media post during his parliamentary vetting, declaring that his intervention in an alleged security lapse at Kotoka International Airport was a national duty

“My call was to national duty; it was heeded and saved the nation. I should be celebrated for that,” George stated when questioned by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The Minority Leader pressed George on whether his social media post about security personnel abandoning their posts at the airport undermined national security.

“I have not suggested that in my post, so I cannot be attributed to them. Thank you,” George responded, adding that his intention was to draw attention to the issue for prompt action.

Afenyo-Markin proposed suspending the vetting to summon airport officials for further clarification, but the committee chairman declined. “Our procedure does not end at this committee… I am unable to grant the request of suspension of the vetting,” the chairman ruled.

Further exchanges between Afenyo-Markin and George delved into the constitutional provisions for national security and the implications of his whistleblowing actions.

George kept his stance, refusing to comment on some aspects. “In respect for whistleblowers, I will not comment,” he stated.
