Painter Jailed Three Years for Laptop Theft
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a painter, Kelvin Boateng, to three years of hard labour for unlawfully entering an office and stealing an HP laptop belonging to a graphic designer.
Boateng received a three-year sentence for both unlawful entry and theft, but the court ruled that the sentences would run concurrently.
Police Inspector Wisdom Alorwu informed the court, presided over by Mrs. Christiana Eyiah-Donkor Cann, that the complainant, Dennis Appau, a graphic designer based in La, Accra, employed Boateng as a painter. However, Boateng resided in Agbogbloshie.
According to the prosecution, on December 31, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Appau and some witnesses were working in his office when Boateng scaled the fence wall, entered one of the offices, and stole the laptop before fleeing the scene.
A witness spotted Boateng carrying the laptop and immediately raised an alarm. In an attempt to evade capture, the convict hid the stolen device in an uncompleted building nearby.
After discovering the theft, the complainant and witnesses initiated a search, leading to the apprehension of Boateng, who was found with the stolen laptop.
Inspector Alorwu stated that the convict was promptly arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
During the investigation, Boateng admitted to the crime, leading to his arraignment and subsequent sentencing by the court.
