3 dead 2 hurt in Akyem Asafo road crash

A road crash early Monday morning has killed three people and hurt two others at Akyem Asafo on the Kumasi to Accra highway.

Eyewitnesses say three big trucks were in the crash. A DAF trailer carrying cocoa, with number plate 6294-11, broke down and stopped in the middle of the road.

Two other trucks, a Scania (GS 6429-11) and a Howo tipper truck (number not yet known) crashed into the stopped trailer while heading to Accra.

The driver of the Scania and two women, said to be market sellers, died on the spot. Firefighters, police, and ambulance workers came quickly to help.

The dead have been taken to the Suhum Government Hospital morgue. The two injured are being treated at the same hospital.Police have started looking into what caused the crash.
