Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 flagbearer and former Vice President, has emerged as the clear favourite among party supporters for the NPP’s future leadership, according to a new poll by Global Info Analytics.
The poll shows Dr. Bawumia enjoying 56% support among NPP-aligned voters — a commanding lead over his closest rival, Kennedy Agyapong, the outspoken former MP for Assin Central, who polled 23%.
The figures signal a strong endorsement for Dr. Bawumia, suggesting that his influence within the party remains solid as the NPP begins to regroup and plan its path forward after the 2024 elections.
Coming in third was Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former Minister of Education, with 9% support. P. Boamah, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Education, secured 4%, while Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Agriculture, followed with 3%.
Interestingly, some notable figures from the 2024 campaign — including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Bawumia’s running mate and former Energy Minister, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the former Information Minister — did not place in the top five, suggesting a shift in grassroots sentiment or perhaps a wait-and-see approach from party members.
The remaining 5% of respondents expressed support for other potential candidates, indicating that while Bawumia leads, there’s still room for movement in the years ahead.
Although the race for 2028 is still far off, the poll offers an early glimpse into the evolving landscape within the NPP. And for now, it’s clear: Dr. Bawumia remains the frontrunner as the party charts its future.
