Member of Parliament, Reverend Ntim Fordjour
Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has expressed his disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for what he calls misrepresentation of Ghana.
In an interview, Rev John Ntim Fordjour said Ghana’s abstention from a United Nations vote on LGBTQ+ rights was a “betrayal of trust”. He added that no one will be allowed to promote LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana as they are not culturally accepted and demanded an apology on behalf of Ghanaians from the president.
“We are disappointed in President Mahama, we are disappointed in you, Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa, we are disappointed in whoever sat to misrepresent Ghana, this is a betrayal of trust,” he stressed.
He also revealed that the LGBTQ+ bill has been approved by the speaker of Parliament for four months and hinted that some people are delaying the gazetting of the bill. He gave an ultimatum of one week for the transmission of the bill for gazetting.
“Some unseen hands from the Jubilee house are hampering the progress of the bill. We will speak up, we are giving them one week, after one week, if we don’t see the bill going for gazetting, we will begin to expose some people who are succumbing to the whims and caprices of the Jubilee House”, he said.
He said the people who are allegedly hampering the progress of the bill will be exposed for the ” their double standardness”
He called on Ghanaians to rise, so that Ghana is properly represented in subsequent international decisions.
