We apologize to the people of Kusaag – Bawku MPs
Members of Parliament from the Kusaug area have publicly apologized to their constituents following what they described as violent and unprofessional conduct by military personnel in Bawku. In a strongly worded statement, the MPs expressed regret over the incident, which occurred on July 13, 2025, and assured the people of Kusaag of their commitment to seeking justice and accountability.
During a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Tempane MP Madam Akanvariva Lydia Lamisi, flanked by other lawmakers and Kusasi opinion leaders, delivered a powerful joint statement condemning the conduct of military personnel in Bawku. Referring to the July 13 incident, she described the soldiers’ actions as outright “banditry” under the guise of peacekeeping, accusing them of unleashing violence on innocent civilians.
“We render an unqualified apology to the people of Kusaag for the unprofessional and banditry of the military on the 13th of July 2025,” Madam Akanvariva said.
She demanded accountability and justice, urging the government to act decisively against those responsible.
“That soldiers involved in this act should be investigated and prosecuted when found culpable,” she stated.
She also called for immediate institutional reforms, particularly targeting security operations in the Bawku area.
“That there be an immediate overhaul of the military and all security agencies in Bawku. That the security personnel who will be deployed to Bawku in the future should be properly screened to ensure only professional, impartial, and unbiased personnel are deployed to Bawku,” Madam Akanvariva added.
