Ewurabena Aubynn sworn in as Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North

Madam Ewurabena Aubynn has been officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North following her victory in a rerun parliamentary election conducted earlier this month.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, and was administered by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Her induction into the House comes after the Electoral Commission annulled the original December 2024 parliamentary results for the constituency due to electoral irregularities. Issues cited included discrepancies in vote tallies, unsigned pink sheets, and breaches in the collation process.

Following prolonged discussions and legal challenges, the Commission ordered a rerun of the election in 19 out of 37 polling stations. Though the NPP contested the decision and sought an injunction from the High Court, the application was dismissed, paving the way for the vote to proceed.

Despite low voter turnout and isolated reports of tension, the rerun was largely peaceful. At the end of the process, Madam Aubynn, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 34,090 votes to defeat her closest contender, Nana Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

With her swearing-in, Madam Ewurabena Aubynn now officially takes her seat in Ghana’s Parliament as the representative of the people of Ablekuma North.
