I received GH₵10K from GTA at MUSIGA event

2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Highlife Artiste of the Year, Fameye, has revealed that he received GH₵10,000 from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) during a special MUSIGA event held in his honour on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra.

The event, part of MUSIGA’s Authentic Highlife Nite series, celebrated Fameye’s dedication to highlife music and raised funds for the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF). Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Fameye expressed surprise at the cash gift, which was presented by Abeiku Santana on behalf of GTA.

“I wasn’t expecting it. I was focused on the citation, so it was a beautiful surprise,” he said, also expressing gratitude to MUSIGA President Bessa Simons for championing the recognition.

Fameye was honoured for his unwavering commitment to the highlife genre, especially at a time when many young artistes are shifting toward other styles. He received a citation that praised his role in preserving highlife music a gesture aligned with UNESCO’s recent recognition of highlife as an element of the World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The night featured performances from both veteran and contemporary musicians, including Pat Thomas, Rocky Dawuni, Paulina Oduro, and Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, and was attended by dignitaries such as the French Ambassador to Ghana, UNESCO representatives, and officials from the Ministry of Tourism and GTA.
