Sunderland are reportedly one of three clubs currently in talks to secure a loan move for Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, as the Premier League side consider temporary options for the teenage forward.
Chelsea, who signed Guiu from Barcelona earlier this summer, are open to loaning out the 18-year-old to ensure he gains regular first-team experience. The Blues have made their terms clear: they are seeking a straight season-long loan with no option or obligation to buy, and are insisting that any interested club covers Guiu’s full salary for the duration of the deal.
Sources indicate that Sunderland are pushing strongly for the loan as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season. The Black Cats face competition from two other unnamed clubs, all of whom are eager to land the Spanish youth international.
Guiu, who made a memorable breakthrough at Barcelona by scoring just seconds into his first-team debut last year, joined Chelsea with high expectations. However, with intense competition in Chelsea’s front line, a loan move has been deemed the best developmental path for the young striker this season.
Chelsea view Guiu as a long-term asset and have no intention of including a buy clause in any agreement. Their plan is for him to return to Stamford Bridge in 2026, more experienced and ready to compete for a spot in the senior squad.
As negotiations progress, Sunderland fans will be watching closely to see if the club can secure one of Europe’s most promising young forwards.
