The family of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba has announced that his final funeral rites will be held in Kumasi, with the exact date to be announced later.
Ahead of the funeral, a one-week memorial observance is scheduled for August 30, 2025, in Accra. The announcement was shared through DL FM, the late icon’s radio station according to myjoyonline.
Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a brief illness. He was 60 years old. His death sparked a national wave of sorrow, with tributes pouring in from fans, fellow artists, government officials, and former presidents.
To honour his memory, the Creative Arts Agency and the Fosu family organized a candlelight vigil at Independence Square on August 2, 2025.
Thousands attended the emotional tribute, which also took place simultaneously in the UK, USA, Germany, the Netherlands, and across Ghana. A book of condolence was also opened to the public at his residence on July 29.
With a career spanning nearly 40 years, Daddy Lumba released over 33 albums and became a household name with timeless hits like Theresa, Aben Wo Ha, Ohia Asem, Playboy, Biribi Gyegye Wo, and Woho Kyere. He received numerous accolades, including multiple Ghana Music Awards, the EMY Africa Legend of Entertainment Award (2018), and a Presidential Grand Medal in 2025.
The upcoming one-week event in Accra is expected to attract a large gathering of fans, musicians, and creative arts stakeholders to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Ghana’s greatest music legends.
