Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will hold a crucial meeting with political parties contesting the upcoming Akwatia by-election on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
According to the Eastern Regional Director of the EC, the engagement will focus on key operational details ahead of the polls scheduled for September 2, 2025. He stressed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in the process, urging political parties to abide by the rules to guarantee a peaceful election.
The by-election was triggered by the passing of Ernest Kumi, who had represented the constituency for only six months after the 2024 general elections.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is determined to defend the seat, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed strong confidence in flipping it. As the date draws closer, campaign activities have intensified, with top party figures making frequent visits to Akwatia to rally support.
