Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has received a major boost in her bid for freedom after the Amasaman High Court agreed to hear her appeal against her 15-year jail sentence.
The court has scheduled the appeal hearing for December 2025, a decision that has brought excitement to her followers as she continues to serve her sentence at Nsawam Prison.
Nana Agradaa was convicted on July 3, 2025, by an Accra Circuit Court for fraud and charlatanic advertisement. Prosecutors said she promised to “double” the money of her church members, leading many to hand over large sums. When the money was neither doubled nor returned, she was charged and later jailed.
On November 21, it was reported that her appeal had officially been admitted. Her lawyers argue that the initial trial was flawed, the judgment unfair, and the judge biased. They are asking the High Court to overturn both her conviction and the 15-year sentence.
Though her recent court appearance was postponed due to incomplete appeal records, the approval of the appeal itself marks an important step. Many now await the December hearing to see whether the controversial evangelist can successfully challenge the ruling connected to the alleged money-doubling scam.
