The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has annulled the full results of 653 candidates who wrote this year’s WASSCE for School Candidates after they were caught with mobile phones during the exams.
Additionally, the examination body has voided the results of 6,295 candidates in specific subjects for entering the exam halls with unauthorised materials such as handwritten notes, textbooks, and printed documents. WAEC is also holding back the results of 908 candidates in some subjects and the entire results of another 158 students due to various malpractice offences.
Moreover, the results of candidates from 185 schools have been withheld on suspicion of cheating and will remain on hold until investigations are concluded, according to a statement issued by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, alongside the release of the 2025 WASSCE-SC results.
The statement further revealed that 19 individuals have already been fined or sentenced for their involvement in exam malpractice. These were among 35 people including 19 teachers who were implicated in acts that undermined the credibility of the examination. The remaining 16 suspects will soon be arraigned. It added that teachers found culpable will also face disciplinary measures from the Ghana Education Service.
WAEC has provided school heads with credentials to access their students’ results online, while candidates can also check their results on the council’s website. The public has been warned to avoid scammers who lure students with promises of altering grades, stressing that WAEC results are secure and verifiable through its system.
