Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has pushed back sharply against growing whispers that the NDC is plotting to amend Ghana’s constitution to pave the way for President John Mahama to seek a third term. His response? Blunt, irritated, and loaded with political subtext.
Ayariga insists there is no plan, no meeting, no secret draft suggesting the party is working on such a scheme.
“No bold, no dash, we’re working on something sinister. Meanwhile, nothing of the sort has even been discussed,” he said, dismissing the speculations as baseless mischief.
He emphasized that although the NDC currently has the numbers in Parliament to trigger constitutional conversations, no bill, proposal, or committee document has ever been tabled to alter presidential term limits.
“So why are people behaving as if there’s a document hidden somewhere?” he asked. “We have real national issues to deal with. This one is a manufactured distraction.”
Ayariga’s message is unmistakable:
If anyone seems fixated on the idea of Mahama pursuing a third term, it is those spreading the rumour — not the former president himself.
For the NDC, he maintains, the focus remains on governance, economic stability, and delivering on national priorities, not rewriting the foundations of the Republic.
