Security analyst and consultant, Richard Kumadoe, has explained that the protection of Ghanaians abroad remains the responsibility of the host nation.
Reacting to news of an attack on Ghanaian tomato traders in Burkina Faso over the weekend, Richard Kumadoe noted that Ghana’s diplomatic missions exist purposely to ensure that host countries protect Ghanaian nationals in their respective station countries.
In an interview on Onua FM on Monday, February 16, the security consultant emphasized that these diplomatic missions do not only exist for ceremonial purposes but also to protect citizens, offer security information, and ensure the overall well-being of citizens abroad.
“As a Ghanaian, whenever you travel into another country, your first point of contact is supposed to be your embassy, the embassies are not just there; they are there for security and risk guidance. They engage local authorities and provide direction to citizens, especially in high-risk areas,” he said.
The government earlier confirmed the terrorist attack on a group of traders and truck drivers traveling through Titao in Burkina Faso on Saturday, February 14, resulting in the death of seven individuals while leaving several others injured
Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has however disclosed that the seven individuals who lost their lives in the attacked have been laid to rest while investigations proceed.
