The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has praised Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for his ruling on the petitions which sought to remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, her deputies, and the Special Prosecutor.
This follows an announcement by the Presidency Communications, indicating that Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie communicated to President Mahama confirming a “no constitutional justification” for the removal of the EC Chairperson, her deputies, or the Special Prosecutor.
Reacting to the Chief Justice’s decision in a social media post on Wednesday, Franklin Cudjoe remarked that the ruling points to a newfound independence of the Judiciary from the Executive, indicating that such decision would have unlikely under the erstwhile NPP administration.
“The Judiciary is now truly unshackled,” the post declared. “This would never have happened under the previous scariest alternative. Thank you, CJ. Thank you, President John Dramani Callistus Mahama.”
This ruling came after ten separate petitions were submitted to Jubilee House in late 2025, with 7 seeking to remove the EC Chair Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, and 3 targeting Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
In line with the Constitution, these petitions were forwarded to the Chief Justice for an initial constitutional assessment to determine if a prima facie case existed.

However, according to the Presidency Communications, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie effectively dismissed these petitions after determining that they did not present a prima facie case to warrant further investigation or the establishment of a committee of inquiry
as outlined in Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959).
