The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) together with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) have cautioned motorists using the Accra–Aflao highway to strictly observe speed limits as the Easter season draws near.
This caution was delivered during a driver sensitisation exercise along the busy stretch, forming part of a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting road safety awareness, enforcing traffic regulations, and reducing accidents and fatalities.
Addressing participants, Simbiat Wiredu, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NRSA, highlighted the need for defensive driving.
“For you to be able to withstand all hazards, you have to reduce your speed. So we are pleading with all of you. My brother warned you. I’m adding my voice to it,” she said.
She further noted, “The National Road Safety Authority is urging that during this Easter period and beyond, you must be safe and defensive drivers. You have to comply with all road traffic regulations because there are penalties. At the end of the day, you may be arrested and made to pay those penalties.”
According to the authorities, the exercise is intended to address the increasing number of road crashes and deaths, especially during festive periods when traffic volumes are significantly higher.
