Residents of Dechimso-Hafia in the Ashanti Region made a disturbing discovery Sunday when they came across a newborn baby left alone in a bush, prompting an immediate rescue and setting off a police hunt for whoever is responsible.
The infant was found by community members who wasted no time alerting authorities. The baby was subsequently rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital in the Manhyia South Municipality for urgent medical attention, where it remains under close monitoring by medical personnel.
Assembly Member for the area, Ahenkan Baako, confirmed the incident and said efforts to identify the mother are already underway. “We have taken the baby to the Manhyia Government Hospital for further assessment,” he stated.
Police have launched an active investigation and are appealing to residents in Dechimso-Hafia and surrounding communities to come forward with any information that could help identify the person responsible for abandoning the child.
The discovery has unsettled many in the community, with residents expressing distress over the incident and calling for stronger social support structures to address the underlying issues that lead to such situations.
The condition of the baby has not been officially disclosed, though authorities say the infant is being closely monitored. Investigations remain ongoing.
