The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has spent more than GH¢729,000 to settle membership card costs and dues for over 10,000 branch executives in orphan constituencies across the region.
Mr. Ashie Moore explained that the initiative is intended to strengthen the party’s grassroots base by supporting executives in constituencies where the NDC does not currently have Members of Parliament.
He described the intervention as both timely and strategic, aimed at boosting unity and morale within the party ahead of future political engagements. The affected constituencies include Trobu, Okaikwei Central, Weija-Gbawe, Tema Central, and Anyaa-Sowutuom.
In an interview with the media, he praised the dedication of branch executives, noting that their efforts played a key role in the party’s strong performance in the Greater Accra Region during the 2024 general elections.
He stressed that sustaining the commitment of grassroots leaders is essential for consolidating the party’s electoral gains.
Mr. Ashie Moore further noted that while constituencies represented by NDC Members of Parliament often benefit from direct support, orphan constituencies require intentional intervention to ensure fairness and inclusiveness within the party structure.
He said the decision to cover the costs reflects the party’s commitment to equity and internal cohesion.
“Out of the 34 constituencies, we have 29 Members of Parliament, which means five are orphan constituencies. Per the party’s new guidelines, each branch executive is required to pay GH¢20 for a membership card and GH¢24 as dues, bringing the total to GH¢44. Across the five constituencies, we have over 10,000 branch executives. As Regional Chairman, I have therefore released over GH¢729,000 to cover their membership and dues,” he explained.
He added that the move is expected to reduce financial pressure on executives, encourage active participation, and strengthen the party’s organisational capacity at the grassroots level.
