The High Court in Koforidua has issued an injunction stopping the planned Awukudae celebration at Akropong Akuapem and banning all activities connected to the event scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, as well as any other date in May.
The decision followed an application by the Ghana Police Service through the Inspector General of Police under Section 1(6) of the Public Order Act at the Eastern Regional High Court.
In its ruling, the court restrained the Queen Mother of the Akuapem Traditional Area, Nana Afua Nketia Obuo II, together with the Asonahene, Nana Kwasi Omenako, the Twafohene, Nana Okromansa Amoah, and the Nkotiah Abusuapanin, Edmund Ohene Asa Agyekum, as well as anyone acting on their behalf, from organising or taking part in the Awukudae festivities.
The injunction further prohibits the respondents and their associates from holding any related gathering either at Akropong Akuapem or in any other location.
The order, dated May 19, 2026, was granted after the court considered an affidavit filed by Inspector Nuhu Mumuni of the Eastern Regional Police Command in Koforidua.
According to the court, the respondents are barred from carrying out any Awukudae celebration or related activities within the stated period and area of jurisdiction.
The ruling is part of measures by security authorities to preserve public order and avoid possible unrest associated with the planned celebration.
