Sam George announces major cut in MTN fibre broadband charges
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel George, has announced major reductions in fibre broadband prices following discussions between the government and MTN Ghana aimed at making internet access more affordable.
In a social media update on Wednesday, June 17, the minister revealed that the engagements had resulted in significant price cuts for unlimited fibre broadband packages.
Under the new pricing structure, subscribers who previously paid GH¢987 per month for an unlimited 100 Mbps package will now pay GH¢299. Describing the development as a major breakthrough, he stated that “effective today, fibre broadband prices have crashed.”
Customers can also access an unlimited 300 Mbps package for GH¢444 per month, while the 500 Mbps unlimited package has been priced at GH¢999 monthly.
According to the minister, the revised packages are a response to growing public calls for broadband services that are more affordable, dependable and efficient.
He praised the management of MTN Ghana for responding positively to concerns raised by both consumers and government, and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to working with telecom operators to secure better value and improved services for Ghanaians.
The price reductions are expected to benefit households, businesses, remote workers and digital content creators as demand for high-speed internet continues to grow across the country.
MTN Ghana has not yet released a comprehensive statement detailing the new broadband packages.
