Football supporters in Kumasi have stressed that the Black Stars must secure a victory against Panama in their opening World Cup group-stage match, warning that anything less would be a major setback for Ghana’s qualification ambitions.
With anticipation building ahead of the encounter, many fans believe the game is crucial to Ghana’s chances of advancing to the knockout rounds and insist the team cannot afford to drop points against Panama.
Robert, a supporter at Tech Station, said a win is non-negotiable if Ghana hopes to progress.
“A defeat or even a draw against Panama would be disappointing. We need all three points to strengthen our chances of qualifying. The team must show confidence, score goals, and prove they belong on the world stage. If we fail to win, our qualification hopes will be in serious danger,” he said.
Another fan, Nana Hemaa, expressed confidence in Ghana’s attacking options and predicted a positive result.
“I’m confident Ghana will score, and I believe Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew will find the back of the net,” she said.
Mr. Red, a station master at Tech Junction, acknowledged Panama’s threat but maintained that Ghana has the experience and quality needed to prevail.
“We respect Panama, but the Black Stars have a stronger squad. Failing to win would make our path out of the group much more difficult,” he noted.
Fans also weighed in on the absence of vice-captain Thomas Partey, who will miss the match in Toronto after being denied entry into Canada.
While many described Partey as an important player, they remained optimistic about Ghana’s chances.
“Partey’s absence is significant, but the team still has enough talent to secure a victory,” one supporter remarked.
The Black Stars are expected to approach the match with determination, aware that every point will be vital in the race for qualification.
Football analysts have urged the team to be efficient in attack and disciplined at the back to avoid the mistakes that have cost Ghana in previous World Cup campaigns.
The Ghana Football Association has also called on supporters to back the team strongly as they begin their tournament journey. The match against Panama is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, in Toronto.
Ghana is seeking to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the third time, having previously advanced to the Round of 16 in 2006 and the quarter-finals in 2010.
